Design Development
Situated on a corner lot in Newmarket, this single-family residence is shaped by mature trees and a grade transition of nearly one storey between the front and rear of the property. These conditions guide the architectural response and shape the organization of the house.
The massing and spatial organization emerge through careful negotiation with the existing trees, which are preserved as defining elements of the site. Interior spaces are arranged to frame views, shape circulation, deliver the program, and establish a layered relationship between the building and its surrounding.
Engaging with the street from multiple fronts, the house balances presence and restraint while responding thoughtfully to its residential context. The project explores how architecture can contribute to a measured, site-responsive precedent grounded in clarity, adaptability, and long-term livability.
